Party of Islam Announced

The Electoral Commission has just announced the formation of a new political party. The Islam Party was registered on the 13th of this month, just a week after the tragic events in the Middle East. Whether that’s connected or not, we don’t know at this point. More importantly for Labour and for Keir Starmer at this point, where he’s being torn and forced to make a decision or express a position one way or the other, he is struggling with mass resignations from Muslims who sympathize with the Palestinian people. Obviously, his position of supporting Israel’s right to defend itself is not going very well, and the Labour Party is beginning to implode. So, this party appearing at this time could split the Labour vote, especially in key areas. Possibly, it’s not the first Islamic party. There have been one or two others over the years that didn’t really get anywhere. Is the climate now conducive to an official Islamic party? Will it have the support of Muslims throughout the country?

If so, then this could be a very interesting development. It’s definitely one to be watched. We’ll see how it goes, and could there be implications for Khan at the elections early next year? He’s obviously divided London with the much-hated ULEZ expansion. So, we’ll have to see how that goes down at the next May elections, May next year, I believe.
